Kino Lorber Acquires North American Rights to Sundance Hummingbird Charmer 'Every Little Thing'
“Effortlessly riveting… Every Little Thing is not just a deeply affecting portrait — it offers a vision of compassion as a way of life.”
– Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter
“A shimmering, densely layered film about love and resilience, about how we live with and recover from trauma, and about letting go… kindness is at the core of Every Little Thing.”
– Andrew Stafford, The Guardian
Kino Lorber has acquired North American distribution rights to the Sally Aitken directed Sundance documentary charmer Every Little Thing, which follows the healing journey of a specialist hummingbird rehabilitator as she cares for her tiny winged patients in Los Angeles. Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release in January 2025, followed by a digital, educational, and home video release.
Featuring stunning slow-motion cinematography of the hummingbirds, each with their own name and personality, Every Little Thing made its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. The film has continued to screen widely at film festivals worldwide including SXSW, CPH:DOX, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, IFFBoston, Hot Docs, and most recently the Hamptons Film Festival.
Author and rehabber Terry Masear wants to save every injured hummingbird in Los Angeles. Terry takes in the most fragile of patients through her volunteer hummingbird rescue, but the path to survival is fraught with uncertainty and drama. Over the course of Sally Aitken’s intimate and moving documentary, we become invested in Terry’s hummingbird patients – including Cactus, Jimmy, Wasabi, Raisin, and Mikhail – celebrating their small victories and lamenting their tiny tragedies. Through the eyes of America’s busiest bird rehabilitator, each bird becomes memorable, mighty and heroic. As she nurtures the wounded hummingbirds back to health, Terry finds herself on her own transformative journey, unraveling a visually captivating and magical tale of love, healing, and the delicate beauty in tiny acts of greatness.
The deal for Every Little Thing was negotiated by Kino Lorber Head of Theatrical Acquisitions and Distribution Lisa Schwartz and documentary sales specialists Dogwoof, who co-financed the film with Tangled Bank Studios and the lead producer WildBear Entertainment.
“We were touched, inspired, and utterly charmed by Terry Masear and the hummingbirds of Every Little Thing,” said Kino Lorber’s Lisa Schwartz. “Sally Aitken captures the journeys of Terry and her tiny charges with so much emotion, tenderness, and humor that it's hard not to cheer for a little bird named Cactus. We're delighted to introduce Cactus, Wasabi, and all of the hummingbirds to North American audiences.”
“I'm overjoyed to partner with Kino Lorber for the North American release of Every Little Thing. This film is a celebration of compassion and the incredible bond we share with all living beings. I hope it inspires viewers to find joy in the small, everyday acts of kindness that make a big difference. I can’t wait for audiences to experience this sumptuous visual story when the film opens in theaters this January, and see hope, packaged in tiny, dazzling hummingbirds,” said Sally Aitken.
Every Little Thing is directed by Sally Aitken and produced by Bettina Dalton, p.g.a. for WildBear Entertainment (Playing with Sharks), with Anna Godas (Copa 71, McEnroe, Citizen Ashe), and Oli Harbottle. The film is executive produced by David Guy Elisco, Sean B. Carroll, Alan Erson, and Michael Tear.
