Kino Lorber has acquired North American distribution rights to Katherine Propper’s debut feature Lost Soulz, a fresh hip hop-infused drama about a young rapper’s journey to harness his creativity and forge his own path to musical superstardom. The film made its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, where it won the second place Audience Award, and will make its international premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London on October 29. Kino Lorber will release Lost Soulz theatrically, digitally, and on home video in 2024.
Written and directed by first time feature filmmaker Katherine Propper, Lost Soulz is a new take on the road movie that pulls back the curtain on today’s underground hip hop scene, anchored by a genre-bending hip-hop soundtrack and improvisational musical performances from the talented young cast. The film is based in part upon the real life experiences of lead actor and rapper Sauve Sidle, who stars alongside Siyanda Stillwell, Aaron "Seven" Melloul, Krystall Poppin, Alexander Brackney, Micro TDH, Malachi Mabson, and Tauran Ambroise.
Sol (Sauve Sidle) is an aspiring young rapper and musician, struggling to fund his studio sessions and living with his best friend Wesley’s family. When he meets a group of touring hip-hop musicians, Sol decides to take a chance, leaning into his creative dreams and impulsively joining them on a road trip through Texas. Leaving all that he knows behind, Sol embarks on a musical odyssey across the state, finding instant creative chemistry with his new companions and discovering his own identity as an artist. However, the world of opportunity is not all it appears to be, and soon Sol is forced to make some life changing decisions.
The deal for Lost Soulz was brokered by Kino Lorber Senior Vice President Wendy Lidell and Andrew Herwitz, President of NYC-based The Film Sales Company.
